Treadmill pace calculator
Convert treadmill speed to pace (and pace to speed). Set a duration to estimate distance. Simple.
Results
Numbers are estimates. Treadmills can vary slightly by model and calibration.
How to use the treadmill pace calculator
Use this treadmill pace calculator to convert between treadmill speed and running pace. Switch between km/h and mph, then either enter your speed to see pace, or enter your pace to see the treadmill speed you need. Add a duration to estimate distance.
Modes
- I know my speed: enter speed in km/h or mph to get your pace and estimated distance for the chosen time.
- I know my pace: enter pace in min/km or min/mi to get the treadmill speed and estimated distance for the chosen time.
Treadmill calculator formulas
Speed → pace
Pace = 60 ÷ Speed
Example: 12.0 km/h → 5:00 /km
Pace → speed
Speed = 60 ÷ Pace
Example: 6:00 /km → 10.0 km/h
Distance
Distance = Speed × Time (hours)
Example: 10.0 km/h for 30 min → 5.0 km
UK treadmill examples
Examples are static (they won’t change your calculator inputs) — they’re here to show typical conversions runners search for.
12.0 km/h pace
Speed: 12.0 km/h
Pace: 5:00 /km (≈ 8:03 /mi)
10.0 km/h pace
Speed: 10.0 km/h
Pace: 6:00 /km (≈ 9:39 /mi)
10 mph pace
Speed: 10.0 mph
Pace: 6:00 /mi (≈ 3:44 /km)
FAQ
Is treadmill pace the same as outdoor pace?
Usually it’s close, but not identical. Treadmills can be slightly miscalibrated, and running mechanics differ without wind resistance. Use treadmill pace as a consistent training reference.
How do I convert km/h to min/km?
Divide 60 by the speed (in km/h) to get minutes per km. This calculator does it instantly and also estimates distance for your chosen time.
How do I convert mph to min/mile?
Divide 60 by the speed (in mph) to get minutes per mile. Switch to miles to see mph and min/mi outputs.
What treadmill speed is a 5:00 /km pace?
5:00 per km is 12.0 km/h (about 7.46 mph). Use the “I know my pace” mode to convert any pace to speed.
What treadmill speed is a 10:00 /mile pace?
10:00 per mile is 6.0 mph (about 9.66 km/h). Switch to miles, then enter 10:00 /mi to see the speed.
What is the world record marathon pace on a treadmill?
There isn’t an official World Athletics world record category for treadmill marathons (their records system is for eligible road and track performances). A widely cited fastest treadmill marathon is CJ Albertson’s 2:09:00 in 2020, which is roughly 3:04 /km (about 4:57 /mi).
How do I calculate marathon pace or race pace?
If you want to work backwards from a target finish time, use our pace calculator. It converts time and distance into pace per km or mile, and helps you plan pacing targets.
