How to use the pace calculator
Use this running pace calculator to convert between pace and finish time. Choose km or miles, then either: (1) enter your pace to see estimated finish times for common race distances, or (2) enter a distance and goal time to see the pace you need.
Modes
- I know my pace: get predicted finish times for distances like 5K, 10K, half marathon, and marathon.
- I have a goal time: choose a distance to calculate the required pace per km and per mile.
Pace calculator formulas
Pace is time divided by distance. Finish time is pace multiplied by distance. This tool uses those relationships to compute pace, splits, and estimates for common race lengths.
Calculate pace
Pace = Time ÷ Distance
Example: 50:00 over 10 km → 5:00 /km
Calculate finish time
Time = Pace × Distance
Example: 5:00 /km for 21.0975 km → ~1:45:29
Convert km and miles
1 km = 0.621371 mi
1 mi = 1.609344 km
Use the km/mi toggle at the top.
UK pace examples
Here are three common UK targets and the pace you need. Use the calculator above to fine-tune your own goal.
Sub-20 5K pace
Distance: 5 km
Goal time: 20:00
Required pace: 4:00 /km (≈ 6:26 /mi)
Sub-90 half marathon pace
Distance: 21.0975 km
Goal time: 1:29:59
Required pace: 4:16 /km (≈ 6:52 /mi)
Sub-4 marathon pace
Distance: 42.195 km
Goal time: 3:59:59
Required pace: 5:41 /km (≈ 9:09 /mi)
Popular UK use cases: parkrun pace calculator, marathon pace calculator, and converting min/km to min/mile.
FAQ
What is a good running pace?
“Good” depends on your experience, age, and goal. A better benchmark is whether you can sustain a pace comfortably and recover well. Use this calculator to set realistic training targets and refine your pacing over time.
Can I use this as a parkrun pace calculator?
Yes. Parkrun is 5 km — enter your 5K target time to see the pace per km and per mile you’ll need, plus splits to help you pace evenly.
How do I calculate pace per mile from pace per km?
A mile is longer than a kilometre. To convert, multiply your seconds-per-km pace by 1.609344 to get seconds per mile (or use the unit toggle to switch instantly).
How do splits help on race day?
Splits show your target time at each marker (for example every 1 km or mile). Even pacing can reduce blow-ups, while a slight negative split (finishing faster than you start) is a common strategy for strong finishes.
Is this a marathon pace calculator?
Yes — select Marathon and enter your goal time to see the required pace per km and per mile, plus splits and pacing bands.
How do I convert treadmill speed to pace (km/mi)?
Use our treadmill pace calculator to convert between speed and pace, and to estimate distance and time in both km and miles.
